[news] IU, Yesung, Jonghyun Drop Out of Immortal Song 2

IU, Super Junior’s Yesung, and SHINee’s Jonghyun will drop out of Immortal Song 2.

Kwon Jaeyoung PD said on 6 June, “IU, Yesung, and Jonghyun are leaving because of their busy schedules. IU will drop out after last episode, and Yesung and Jonghyun after the 3rd episode that is aired on 18 June.”

IU, Yesung, and Jonghyun will be replaced by Secret’s Song Jieun, 2PM’s Joonsu, and FT Island’s Lee Hongki.

Kwon PD added, “I’m sorry that we cannot show how the original members improve, but we think positively that this will give opportunities to more idol stars.”

  4. So soon? Too bad – Jonghyun really seemed to enjoy himself. But this is probably better so that his vocals are not stretched too much.

But i do not get the point of adding IU if she was going to be in the show for only 1 episode. Her agency is definitely over-stretching her and she should definitely drop some of what she’s doing. But this is unheard of. I agree with Juju, the PD just wanted to use her popularity to boost interest in the show.

This show’s concept is pretty messy and not well thought out. I have no problem with idols rotating to be in the show. But it should be done in a more structured manner e.g. idols should be available to appear in at least 4 episodes before they are allowed in the show. This way, they can show the progress they are making and really prove themselves.

    • I’m really upset with these TV pds. They don’t respect idols. They know their power over them and just use them to boost the ratings. These days, I get sick of what TV gayo progams are doing. You know all the concerts they are planning to hold in Japan to use Kpop boom and make money. KBS, a public TV, having a Kpop concert in Tokyo Dome. And the ticket price is so high. So shameless. Everyone is now rushing to make money in Japan riding on Kpop boom. This way Korean Wave won’t last long. Soon Japanese people will get sick of Korean idols.

Sorry for my gushing words. I think Jonghyun might come back. The pd repeatedly is saying that idols dropping out due to their schedules has been taken into account from the beginning and they could come back to compete again.

      • I agree that the PDs are just using idols to promote the show but don’t really care about them. IU is a classic example. I think her agency is telling truth about her just agreeing to guest on the pilot episode since she’s busy. The PDs, however, promoted the show as if IU is a permanent cast member. Her agency’s fault is not clearing that up – I guess they did not expect IU to be voted last (during the 1st round) and that some will assume she dropped out because she was not the best. Poor IU!

I hope these idols do come back. But again, in a more structured manner. I am sure they can come up with a system wherein each idol gets 3-4 appearances before they are replaced. Otherwise, it’s very chaotic.
